About the exam

The Professional Workspace Administrator exam assesses your ability to:

Plan and implement Google Workspace authorization and access

Manage user, resource, and shared drive life cycles

Control and configure Google Workspace services

Configure and manage endpoint access

Monitor organizational operations

Advance Google Workspace adoption and collaboration

The price of the exam is $200 and the duration is 2 hours. You can expect 50 questions to be answered within the given time.

My Background

I have been tinkering around Google Cloud services for the past 2 years and am working as a Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps Engineer. This ensured that my work experience also contributed to the knowledge base I possess which helped me with understanding Google Cloud at a detailed level. However, I didn’t have any experience using Google Workspace as an Administrator rather I was an end user.

Preparation Strategy

Since I didn’t have an opportunity to work in the Administrator Console of Google Cloud, it was Cloud Skills Boost that provided me the platform to learn more and get my hands dirty. I was focusing on how things are done practically in Workspace than just learning theoretical concepts.

  • Visit the Google Cloud Professional Workspace Administrator page on Google. This will give you an overview of the exam and what is required to complete the certification.
  • Understand what the exam is all about. Visit the exam guide to see the contents in detail. You will get a solid understanding of the content you will need to prepare for the exam.
  • Visit the official Google Cloud Platform documentation to clearly understand each of the GCP services. These would make up your GCP knowledge but you still have another essential factor to cover: “Hands-on experience”.

“No technical certification in the world will be useful for you if you don’t know how to implement it in the real world scenario.”

Exam Experience

The questions were lighter than other GCP certifications and I got a few straightforward questions. It was tricky when a few questions came about the different licenses provided by Google Workspace. My comparison study around the licenses helped me during the exam in answering those questions. Google Vault was another topic that I found to have more questions.

It took me around one hour to finish all the questions and spent another 15–20 mins reviewing them. Once I was done with the review, I submitted it. It was quite a relief after I finished the exam because I was tensed if I would pass or not since this was something that I haven’t had any hands-on experience with. Overall, it was a good exam with a difficulty level like that of the Professional Cloud Database Engineer exam.
